Poetry does not change the world, it changes the poet. --Richard Eberhart
Together, Urban Skyewriters enjoy exploring the possibility that our love of written language -- poetry, short stories, journaling, novels, screenplays, plays, magazine and newspaper articles, and more – can also help stimulate rich conversations about who we truly are and what matters most to each of us.
Events
Monthly Group Writing Exercise
The Skyewriter’s Group gathers at Shannon's
house on the 4th Tuesday of the month; starting at 6:30 pm with hors d'oeurves,
then moving into our writing workshop from 7-9. Our evening together consists
of a group writing exercise, specifically designed to help unearth new writing
possibilities or potential creative blocks. Participants leave with an optional
writing exercise for the month.
Creative Salons
Urban Skyewriters also host interactive salons,
relaxing environments for creative experimentation and good conversation.
Past offerings have included a collage journal event with our friend Kay
Adams of Denver's Center for Journal Therapy; "Poetry Out of the Blue
Box," led by wild word-woman Gayle Nosal, MFA, CPT; a publications
workshop with Ruminate editorial staffers Brianna Van Dyke and
Amy Lowe; a bookbinding seminar with Urban Skye regular Dave Fletcher; and
an evening of ekphrastic writing, photography by longtime Skyewriter Ida
Chou, at Gallery Cuvee/Paris on the Platte.
For Those Seeking to Improve Their Writing…
We encourage involvement with our good friends and
colleagues at Denver’s own Lighthouse Writers Workshop (www.lighthousewriters.org)
– considered by many to be one of the best writing schools in the
country. There, you’ll receive constructive feedback and guidance
on how to further hone your writing skills.
