LEANOR ORTEGA TILL

Radically Leading and Loving Through Acts of Compassionate Service

With a loud laugh, high energy level, and heart for encouragement, I love to serve as a Chaplain.  So many people don’t fit into the church stereotype. The core of my lifework is to cultivate loving and encouraging communities that honor the dignity of the human spirit in sometimes difficult situations.

My Commitment

  • Serve Offenders in Denver Women’s Correctional Facility (prison) as a Chaplain; hired and trained by the State of Colorado. I am on site to offer emotional and spiritual support to Offenders of all faith backgrounds. I connect people with sacred items they request (devotionals, rosaries, Bibles of all kinds, prayer mats etc.) as well as items they can check out from our Chaplain’s library. Offenders are able to request one on one meetings with me (KITES) and I also am called in to offer solace during challenging times.

  • LISTEN LISTEN LOVE LOVE is the motto of a prison Chaplain. I lead weekly Bible studies with hymns I play to the best of my ability on my child size acoustic guitar. Twice monthly I lead a team of trained volunteers for our larger gatherings we call “Prayer and Shares.”

  • Twice monthly I lead a Chapel at an Assisted Living home. The residents are overjoyed to have the opportunity to pray and worship to beloved hymns.

  • As a former leader at Scum of the Earth Church I continue to meet with dozens of wonderful and unique people that called Scum their church home. Whether offering marriage advice, babysitting, sharing a family meal or allowing them to vent, this time is pastoral in nature and part of my continued call towards this special community I love.

Join My Unconventional Journey

Because DWCF does not compensate religious staff we are encouraged to raise support (donations) from families, churches, and organizations. I joined a wonderful non-profit based in Denver called Urban Skye in 2016 while I was a volunteer serving with homeless women. Years later I am still serving though the roles have changed. Through Urban Skye I have been able to legally receive tax-deductible donations for hours worked and items needed. Urban Skye Staff meet monthly to share and encourage each other as most of us work in challenging sectors of society. I rely greatly on my iron sharpening iron cohorts!

Yes, I may be known for being full of energy but I am also full of HOPE! I believe that God loves every person dearly and I am so humbled to share this message with all. Would you walk alongside me in support as I create sacred spaces in surprising places.

*Your Prayers, Encouragement, & Support Fuel the Heart of my Ministry
