Stephen is a Colorado native, born in Boulder, and raised right there in the bubble! He’s the
proud father of two boys and married to the most aggravatingly attractive woman in the
world - inside and out.
He holds the 8th grade record for traversing the pegboard, was voted most likely to run with
scissors, and will try anything twice! He enjoys multi-day bike rides and peppered beef
jerky. He’s an INFP, an Enneagram 4, and loves when people wear red and pink together.
He received a Master of Spiritual Formation and Soul Care from Denver Seminary and is a
practicing spiritual director for faith leaders throughout the country. Stephen’s a devoted
teacher at his church, a trusted retreat leader for the Praxis, and a valued lecturer at
Denver Seminary.
Today, Stephen desires to guide others through the unfamiliar territories of their spiritual
life. He longs to help people recover the depth, substance and beauty in experiences that
may otherwise seem disconnected or irrelevant.
Snapshot of my ministry
Contemplative Discipleship offers a place and process for individuals to deepen their life
with God...however God decides to come.
Life with God can be a puzzling place in today’s world. Our personal relationship with God
can easily be mistaken for things we learn to profess about him. Over time, we come to
confuse our life with God for doctrines we learned about him along the way. Left there long
enough, we begin to dull our senses to the most interesting part of our life while delaying
the joy available in the normal, ordinary and everyday moments.
In contrast with traditional discipleship programs that standardize growth, institutionalize
theology and emphasis a trajectory of up-and-to-the-right, Contemplative Discipleship
examens the immediate circumstances of our life as the best and holiest possible
curriculum we could ask for to deepen our life in God. Contemplative Discipleship aims
to redeem discipleship into Christlikeness; not by living a life like Christ, but by living a life
as connected to the Source of Life as Christ lived his.
